Pres. of UNIDOS Juan Peralez
Juan Peralez was born in the town of Los Indios, Texas about 100 yards from the Rio Grande. In 1959, his parents who were farm workers migrated to Washington because wages were higher than in Texas. Mr. Peralez graduated from Stanwood High School and was fortunate to attend and graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Political Science. While at the U of W,he became President of MECHA, a Chicano student national organization that advocated for ethnic studies, more Chicano faculty, and the hiring of more Chicanos at the University. He worked for the City of Seattle for 30 years in energy conservation. In 1990, Juan founded Unidos, a nonprofit advocacy organization to address police brutality, racial profiling and police/ICE illegal collaboration. Unidos currently advocates for police accountability and is an ally of the Washington Coalition for Police Accountability. Unidos is a 501-C 4 nonprofit organization whose mission is uniting law enforcement and communities that works on changing police culture in order to save lives of both communities and law enforcement. We believe police culture is stale, doesn't work, never has, and needs to change towards the mission of saving lives of community members by holding law enforcement accountable. Unidos also works on addressing white supremacy within law enforcement and beyond. We believe white supremacy extremists groups must be tracked, monitored and confronted as they are the biggest threat to our democracy as was demonstrated on January 6, 2021. Unidos not only serves the Latino community but everyone in general who is vulnerable to white supremacy violence and police misconduct.
